Photocopied lists of ethnic newspapers and periodicals with name, place of publication, dates founded and ceased, name/s of founder/s, and background notes. The information was compiled by the University of Michigan Depart. of Journalism students under the direction of Professor Marion Marzolf, 1972-1974. The information was compiled into a book entitled, Ethnic newspapers and periodicals in Michigan : a list, edited by Hathaway, published in 1978. A copy of the book may be found in the Clarke Historical Library.

The study of journalism at the University of Michigan began in 1890/91 when Fred Newton Scott, assistant professor of rhetoric, started a course on rapid writing.
